Basketball Recap: Mcdowell Makes It 11 in a Row at Home

McDowell won the last time they faced North Buncombe and things went their way on Friday too. The McDowell Titans managed a 73-68 victory over the North Buncombe Black Hawks. Given the Titans' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while the Black Hawks are ranked 249th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Kyson Rinnert was his usual excellent self, putting up 23 points. Roby Franklin was another key player, scoring 15 points.

North Buncombe lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Trent Clark, who went 12 for 21 on his way to 28 points and five rebounds. Clark's evening made it 25 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Ledford, who posted 17 points.

McDowell pushed their record up to 17-2 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.4 points per game. As for North Buncombe, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-9.

The future could be bright for both McDowell and North Buncombe: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. McDowell will look to extend Enka's eight-game losing streak when the meet at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, North Buncombe will try to hand West Henderson their third-straight defeat when the two meet at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
