Basketball Recap: Morgan Township Triumphs

Morgan Township won the last time they faced Wheeler and things went their way on Thursday too. The Morgan Township Cherokees managed a 34-29 victory over the Wheeler Bearcats. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cherokees.

Josie Lemmons was the offensive standout of the game as she posted 13 points and four steals. Abby Wasz was another key player, putting up seven points and 12 rebounds.

Morgan Township smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 21 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Despite the defeat, Wheeler had strong showings from Kylie Simpson, who went 7 of 17 on her way to 14 points and six steals, and Izabela Schumacher, who put up six points along with 19 rebounds and four steals. Schumacher is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least nine every time she's taken the court this season.

Morgan Township has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. As for Wheeler, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.

Morgan Township will venture away from home to square off against North White at 12:30 p.m. on December 28th. As for Wheeler, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Wheeler Bearcats face off against the Northwestern Tigers at 11:30 a.m. on December 28th. Wheeler is facing Northwestern at the right time seeing as Northwestern is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
