Baseball Recap: Eureka Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Eureka, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They blew past the Fortuna Huskies 10-3 on Wednesday. The Loggers haven't had any issues with the Huskies recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Royce Olson tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Garrett Levitt, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Eureka: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-9 otherwise. Michael Jewell was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Eureka kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.2.

Eureka's win bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Fortuna, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-13.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eureka will venture away from home to square off against Arcata at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Loggers are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Fortuna, they will head out to take on McKinleyville at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Huskies' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
