Preview: East Laurens Falcons vs. Wheeler County Bulldogs
The East Laurens Falcons and the Wheeler County Bulldogs will face off at 7:30 p.m. on December 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Even though East Laurens has not done well against Swainsboro recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. East Laurens took down Swainsboro 66-50. Given East Laurens' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while Swainsboro is ranked 502nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
East Laurens' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rashund Washington Jr. , who scored 24 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The matchup was Washington Jr. 's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kyan Snead, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Wheeler County put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They pulled ahead with a 62-61 photo finish over Dublin.
The victory makes it two in a row for East Laurens and bumps their season record up to 5-1. As for Wheeler County, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-0.
East Laurens strolled past Wheeler County in their previous meeting back in February by a score of 79-61. Does East Laurens have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wheeler County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
