Softball Recap: Fairfield Comes Up Short

Fairfield had lost seven straight at home, but on Monday they dropped down to 7-17 to make it eight. They lost 9-3 to the Oak Hills Highlanders. That's two games in a row now that the Indians have lost by exactly six runs.

Aurora Wallace made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

As for Oak Hills, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games.

On Oak Hills' side, Annaliese Szabo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. Szabo has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Zoe Schaible was a standout: she went a perfect 1-for-1 with four stolen bases and three runs. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Brooke Hoffmeier was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fairfield will take on Harrison at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Indians' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season. As for Oak Hills, they will challenge Seton at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
