Basketball Recap: Antonito Takes a Loss

Antonito was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They were outmatched by the Sierra Grande Panthers and fell 73-17. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 344th, while the Panthers are ranked 98th).

Antonito's loss came despite strong showings from Matthew Mascarenes and Octavian Martinez. Mascarenes posted seven points, while Martinez put up five points.

Leading Sierra Grande to victory were Jadyn Martinez and Aron Ojeda. Jadyn went 10 for 17 en route to 22 points in addition to seven rebounds and six steals, while Ojeda went 9 of 15 on his way to 22 points and six steals. The dominant performance gave Ojeda a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rolando Najera, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards.

Antonito's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Sierra Grande, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2.

Antonito didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 68-27 loss against Questa on the 17th. As for Sierra Grande, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, an 89-18 victory against Lake City Community on the 16th.
