Softball Recap: Hoover Takes a Loss

Hoover extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 4-15 in the process. They lost 22-6 to the Lincoln Hornets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 25-1 back in April.

Hoover saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Linda Chavez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

As for Lincoln, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games.

On Lincoln's side, Ashly Pineda made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Pineda was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her six plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Jada Blackman and Nyema Curtis did most of the damage at the plate: Blackman went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI, while Curtis got on base in five of her seven plate appearances with four runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Those three doubles gave Curtis a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jayla Howard, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.

Hoover didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 18-5 loss against Kearny on the 9th. As for Lincoln, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 20-8 victory against La Jolla on the 9th.
