Softball Recap: New Palestine Finds Playoff Glory Versus Beech Grove

New Palestine had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past the Beech Grove Hornets 13-1 on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Dragons, who have now won 15 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

New Palestine got a great performance from Sadey Hughbanks as she struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Hughbanks has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 17 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Katie Hirschy was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Jersi Gross also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

New Palestine kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matches.

New Palestine's record is now 23-4. As for Beech Grove, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-14-1 record this season.

New Palestine will challenge Greenwood at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Dragons are facing the Woodmen at the right time seeing as the Woodmen are stuck on a six-game losing streak. Beech Grove does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
