Softball Game Preview: Kenmore West Blue Devils vs. Grand Island Vikings

The Kenmore West Blue Devils will venture away from home to square off against the Grand Island Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Kenmore West will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

While Kenmore West's win against Lockport wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Blue Devils sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Lions on Friday.

Dani Hatch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on 13 hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Claire McGillicuddy was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted over her last ten matchups. Ally Foglia was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Kenmore West was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Grand Island didn't have quite enough to beat Lewiston-Porter on Saturday and fell 4-3.

Grand Island saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addy Lewis, who went 2-for-4 with one run.

Kenmore West pushed their record up to 7-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Grand Island, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.

Kenmore West might still be hurting after the 14-3 loss they got from Grand Island in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
