Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Blayne Edwards and Kenjae Burgess Lead Lake City to Victory

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Atlantic Collegiate Academy, Lake City was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They walked away with a 44-36 win over the Marion Swamp Foxes. The Panthers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Swamp Foxes, too.

Lake City was led to victory by Kenjae Burgess and Blayne Edwards. Burgess dropped a triple-double with 12 rebounds, ten assists, and 13 steals, while Edwards almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine boards. Lake City is 6-1 when Burgess posts three or more steals, but 2-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Devin Cockfield, who posted five points in addition to 18 boards and three steals.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Lake City was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marion only racked up six assists.

Marion's loss came despite strong showings from Charles White Jr and Jameir Legette. White Jr scored 12 points and eight rebounds, while Legette earned 11 points and five boards.

Lake City is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. As for Marion, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-12.

Lake City wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 44-34 defeat against Lee Central on the 6th. As for Marion, they have also already played their next game, a 61-50 victory against Kingstree on the 5th.
