Volleyball Recap: Minford Takes a Loss

If Minford was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Clay on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Falcons came up short against the Wheelersburg Pirates on Tuesday, falling 3-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in September.

The match finished with set scores of 25-8, 25-18, 25-17.

Kerigan Davis paced Minford's offense, picking up 15 kills. Davis got some help from Savanna Barker and her 23 assists. Barker was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Wheelersburg found their leader in sophomore Mati Jennings, who had six digs and four aces. Those four aces set a new season-high mark for Jennings.

Minford has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-11 record this season. As for Wheelersburg, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-3.

Coming up, Minford will head out to square off against Portsmouth West at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Wheelersburg, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Jackson at 6:00 p.m.
