Volleyball Recap: St. Joseph Academy's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

After a string of five wins, St. Joseph Academy's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tri-City Christian Eagles. While the Crusaders didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Eagles 25-19 in the first set.

St. Joseph Academy started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 19-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-23.

Max Pokholok paced St. Joseph Academy's offense, picking up 15 kills. Pokholok got some help from Sean Ambuul and his 21 assists. Finally, Justice Ahiafor kept St. Joseph Academy's defense grounded, leading the team with six blocks.

Tri-City Christian found their leader in sophomore Nathan Kummelehne, who had 16 digs. Those 16 digs set a new season-high mark for Kummelehne. Logan Daichendt also deserves some recognition as he had his first block of the season.

St. Joseph Academy's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-5. As for Tri-City Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-12 record this season.

St. Joseph Academy has already played their next match, a 3-0 win against Army-Navy on the 15th. As for Tri-City Christian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Calvin Christian on the 17th.
