Preview: Ord Chanticleers vs. Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family
Ord has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. The Ord Chanticleers and Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family will round out the year against one another at 2:45 p.m. on Thursday at. Hopefully Ord focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Thursday.
Last Thursday, Ord beat Grand Island Central Catholic 42-35.
Ord's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Blake Hinrichs led the charge by scoring 12 points along with eight rebounds. Hinrichs also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Talan Bruha, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family came up short against Scotus on Tuesday and fell 51-42.
Despite their loss, Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Easton Baumgart, who scored ten points along with seven assists and six rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Those seven assists set a new season-high mark for him. Caden Brandl was another key contributor, scoring six points.
The victory got Ord back to even at 3-3. As for Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Ord have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 27 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family, though, as they've been averaging only 26.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Ord came out on top in a nail-biter against Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, sneaking past 43-40. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ord since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
