Basketball Game Preview: Moapa Valley Pirates vs. Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights

The Moapa Valley Pirates will head out on the road to take on the Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Moapa Valley is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Chaparral: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Moapa Valley blew Chaparral out of the water with a 50-10 final score. Winning may never get old, but the Pirates sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.

Meanwhile, Mater Academy East Las Vegas was fully in charge on Thursday, breezing past Cristo Rey St. Viator 62-8. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Royals are ranked 94th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Moapa Valley is also on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 17 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.1 points per game. As for Mater Academy East Las Vegas, their victory bumped their record up to 17-6.

Moapa Valley might still be hurting after the 49-26 loss they got from Mater Academy East Las Vegas in their previous meeting back in January. Can Moapa Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
