Basketball Recap: Seaside Takes a Loss

Seaside extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping them down to 0-4. They had to suffer through a 74-26 loss at the hands of the Oakwood Hawks. If the Spartans were looking for revenge after losing 75-37 to the Hawks when the teams met back in February of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Oakwood, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 71.7 points this season.

Oakwood's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryce Smith-Keeney, who shot 58% from the field en route to 18 points and three steals. The matchup was Smith-Keeney's third in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Shaan Gill, who posted 12 points and six boards.

Coming up, Seaside will be taking part in a tournament against Rancho San Juan at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Oakwood, they will take on Terra Nova in a tournament on Wednesday.
