Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Chiawana

Chiawana entered their tilt with Hermiston on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 16-5 margin over the Bulldogs. The game snapped a strange streak: the last five times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Makinzie Lange made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Amelia Smith was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Audrina Conner also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Chiawana kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Chiawana pushed their record up to 10-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Hermiston, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-7.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Chiawana beat the Bulldogs by a score of 12-9 later that day.
