Softball Recap: Pell City Starts off Right with Win over Vestavia Hills

Pell City had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Vestavia Hills Rebels. For the Panthers, this counts as revenge for the 5-0 victory the Rebels walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2020.

Pell City got a great performance from Savannah McGaha as she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. What's more, McGaha also gave up only two walks, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Addy Simmons, who went a perfect3-for-3 with three RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. Nyla Treptau was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Vestavia Hills dropped their record down to 0-2 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.

We've got a battle between Panthers coming up. The last three games Pell City has played (dating back to last season) have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Vestavia Hills, they will square off against Enterprise at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
