Basketball Recap: Lecanto's Loss Ends 13-Game Winning Streak at Home

Lecanto entered their matchup against Blake on Monday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Lecanto Panthers fell just short of the Blake Yellow Jackets by a score of 68-66. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 30th).

Lecanto's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Braylen Moore, who went 11 for 22 en route to 27 points. JT Tipton was another key player, putting up 11 points along with eight assists and three steals.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Blake to victory, but perhaps none more so than Joe Philon, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Philon has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jordan Mickens, who went 9 of 11 on his way to 18 points.

Lecanto's defeat ended a 13-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 16-2. As for Blake, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-3.

Lecanto wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 79-29 win against Hernando on the 21st. As for Blake, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 90-50 victory against Durant on the 21st.
