Basketball Recap: Thoreau Takes a Loss

Thoreau lost against Tohatchi back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Thoreau Hawks took a hard 71-54 fall against the Tohatchi Cougars. The Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Thoreau still got an impressive performance from Stetson Perry, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 12 boards. Perry is becoming a predictor of Thoreau's success: when he posts at least eight rebounds the team is 6-3 (and 5-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Elijiah Becenti, who posted 12 points.

Tohatchi had a senior duo take command as Kyle Yazzie almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine boards and Josh Dawes almost dropped a double-double with 20 points and nine assists. Yazzie's evening made it ten games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adriano Begay, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 11 rebounds.

Thoreau's loss dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Tohatchi, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-2 record this season.

Thoreau wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 58-50 defeat against Zuni on the 15th. As for Tohatchi, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 77-58 win against Newcomb on the 14th.
