Basketball Recap: Walla Walla Comes Up Short

Walla Walla lost against Chiawana back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Walla Walla Blue Devils had to suffer through a 82-37 loss at the hands of the Chiawana Riverhawks. The Blue Devils were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-11.

Leading Chiawana to victory were Baylee Maldonado and Malia Ruud. Maldonado went 7 of 9 on her way to 19 points in addition to five assists and five boards, while Ruud went 7 for 11 en route to 14 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Tijerina, who posted 12 points.

Walla Walla's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Chiawana, the victory (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 12-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Walla Walla will take on Hanford at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Chiawana, they will face off against Hermiston at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Hermiston: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Chiawana has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
