Basketball Recap: Bishop Gorman Skates Past Coronado with Ease

On Monday, Bishop Gorman faced Coronado in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Bishop Gorman Gaels breezed by the Coronado Cougars to the tune of 67-27. The Gaels have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 20 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bishop Gorman to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aaliah Spaight, who went 5 for 6 on her way to 15 points in addition to six assists and six boards. The dominant performance also gave Spaight a new career-high in blocks (four). Another player making a difference was Savannah Searcy, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds.

Spaight wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Bishop Gorman was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Coronado only posted four assists.

Coronado lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Brooke Beranek, who posted six points and five steals. Jayliana Glothon was another key player, putting up ten points.

Bishop Gorman pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.8 points per game. As for Coronado, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-8.

Bishop Gorman didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 71-21 victory against Palo Verde on the 21st. As for Coronado, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 71-11 win against Clark on the 21st.
