Softball Preview: Center Hill Mustangs vs. Grenada Chargers

Center Hill hasn't had much luck against Grenada recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Mustangs will face off against the Chargers at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Tuesday, Center Hill narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Lake Cormorant 3-2. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with Lake Cormorant recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, Grenada made easy work of Yazoo County on Tuesday and carried off a 9-1 win. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.

Mary Taylour Wilbourn made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That run marked the first that she scored this season.

Wilbourn wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lillian Mattox, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Grenada has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Center Hill, their record is now 6-13.
