Softball Recap: Marshall Barristers vs. Sylmar Spartans

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Marshall had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the Sylmar Spartans 5-4. The win continues a trend for the Barristers in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won eight in a row.

Alyana Mendoza spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Shyanne Velis was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Elaine Reynoso, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Marshall kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Marshall's record is now 9-10. As for Sylmar, the loss snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 17-9 record.
