Basketball Game Preview: Mathis Pirates vs. Aransas Pass Panthers

Mathis hasn't had much luck against Aransas Pass recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Mathis Pirates will venture away from home to take on the Aransas Pass Panthers at 7:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Mathis is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against West Oso on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Mathis might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 81-28 to West Oso, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Pirates were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 52-17.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Jaelee Garcia, who posted four points.

Meanwhile, Aransas Pass lost 57-35 to West Oso on Tuesday. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Bears recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

This is the second loss in a row for Mathis and nudges their season record down to 8-13. As for Aransas Pass, their loss dropped their record down to 11-19.

Mathis ended up a good deal behind Aransas Pass in their previous matchup on January 7th, losing 47-29. Can Mathis avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
