The Altamont Indians will take on the Arcola Purple Riders at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Altamont 3.6, Arcola 1.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
While Altamont's win against Dieterich wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Indians sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Movin Maroons on Friday. The Indians haven't had any issues with the Movin Maroons recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Altamont's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kade Milleville, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Arcola strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They put the hurt on Blue Ridge with a sharp 16-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Purple Riders, who have now won 15 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Brody Phillips was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in both of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Tanner Thomas was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times he's played. Jayden Henson-Stice was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Arcola was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .615. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.
Arcola pushed their record up to 18-0 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Altamont, their win bumped their record up to 17-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Altamont has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Arcola struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Altamont came out on top in a nail-biter against Arcola in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Purple Riders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
