Football Recap: Hillcrest Christian Falls Despite Big Games from Gabe Catalano and Dylan Stueber

Hillcrest Christian dropped down to 5-2 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost to the California Lutheran C-Hawks at home by a 58-42 margin. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (38), the Saints still had to take the loss.

Dylan Stueber and Gabe Catalano certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Stueber threw for 259 yards and five touchdowns, while Catalano picked up 163 receiving yards and three scores. Catalano didn't just play on offense: he also forced one fumble and made 13 total tackles.

As for California Lutheran, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-5. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Joel Doebler was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 168 yards and four TDs while picking up 9.9 yards per carry, and also picked up 30 receiving yards. Those 168 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Tyler Treder was in the mix too, providing California Lutheran with two touchdowns.

Coming up, Hillcrest Christian will head out on the road to challenge Kairos Public at 7:00 p.m. on the 25th. As for California Lutheran, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on California School for the Deaf-Riverside at 7:00 p.m. on the 30th.
