Basketball Recap: Winslow Extends Winning Streak to Four

Winslow lost to Holbrook back in December of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Winslow Bulldogs came out on top in a nail-biter against the Holbrook Roadrunners, sneaking past 59-57. The win was familiar territory for the Bulldogs who have now won four contests in a row.

Winslow's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaac David, who went 9 of 14 en route to 19 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. David has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more points the last ten times he's played. Jayden Curtis also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

David wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Winslow was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Holbrook only posted nine assists.

Holbrook's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyler Tapaha, who went 7 for 15 on his way to 20 points in addition to seven boards and seven steals. That was a full 35.1% of Holbrook's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaron Becenti, who earned 20 points.

Winslow's win bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Holbrook, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-6.

Winslow will face off against Alchesay at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. Alchesay is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.7 points per game this season. As for Holbrook, they are taking a road trip to challenge Show Low at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th.
