Softball Recap: Willow Canyon Has No Trouble Against Cibola

Willow Canyon not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 27, 2024. They put the hurt on the Cibola Raiders with a sharp 11-3 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Wildcats also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.

Lani Faoa made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Faoa was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other pitching news, Willow Canyon got a great performance from Mel Fox as she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Mataya Olson, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Courtney Ray was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

The victory got Willow Canyon back to even at 1-1.

Willow Canyon wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 4-2 defeat against Arizona College Prep on the 28th. As for Cibola, they have also already played their next game, a 15-1 loss against Desert Ridge on the 28th.
