Softball Recap: Prestonsburg's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Prestonsburg was handed a six-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Betsy Layne Bobcats, sneaking past 13-12. The victory was some much needed relief for the Blackcats as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.

Addison Wright made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Hailey Cline was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Rachael Roberts, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Prestonsburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .406 or higher in six consecutive contests.

Prestonsburg's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 5-10. As for Betsy Layne, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-6.

Prestonsburg will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bobcats: the pair will be back at it again later today.
