Basketball Recap: Centennial Comes Up Short

Centennial fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Thayer Central on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 31-24 to the Thayer Central Titans. The contest marked the Broncos' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Thayer Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Leah Havel led the charge by going 6 for 11 on her way to 12 points and eight boards. Havel is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Tietjen, who posted ten points.

Centennial has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Thayer Central, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-3.

Centennial will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Heartland at 6:00 p.m. on February 11th. Thayer Central has already played their next contest, a 56-38 loss against David City on the 1st.
