Baseball Recap: Heritage Takes a Loss

Heritage extended their losing streak to seven on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-14. They came up short against the Melbourne Bulldogs, falling 11-2. If the Panthers were looking for revenge after losing 7-0 to the Bulldogs when the teams met back in March of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Heritage saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zander Tarnowski, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one double. Declan Paull also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

As for Melbourne, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 13-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games.

On Melbourne's side, Seth MonteLeon looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. MonteLeon has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gabriel Gonzalez, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Santos, who went 2-for-3 with one home run.

Looking ahead, Heritage will head out to challenge Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Melbourne, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Merritt Island at 6:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 3.8, the Mustangs 1.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
