Recap: Coconino Panthers vs. Mingus Marauders

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Flagstaff, the Coconino Panthers were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They came out on top against Mingus by a score of 47-40. For Coconino, this counts as revenge for the 53-45 defeat Mingus walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.

Coconino got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Madisyn Paddock out in front who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Aviana Scharfenberger, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds.

Mingus lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Savannah Tobias, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Tobias is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brianka Villalobos, who scored eight points along with three steals.

Coconino's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-11. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Mingus, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 15-4 record this season.

Coconino will head out on the road to take on Lee Williams at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mingus, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bradshaw Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
