Halifax Academy has gone a perfect 8-0 against Ridgecroft recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Vikings will head out to take on the Rams at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Halifax Academy took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They came out on top against Rocky Mount Academy by a score of 6-1.
Payton Odom spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Scarlett Harris was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Hayden Barlow was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Ridgecroft entered their tilt with Hertford County on Wednesday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. They put the hurt on the Bears with a sharp 18-0 win. That 18 run margin sets a new team best for the Rams this season.
Evi Watson and Lacey Berryman made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Watson tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Berryman pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Watson scored a run while going 1-for-2, while Berryman went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Ridgecroft got a massive performance out of Katie Vaughan, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits Vaughan has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Callie Liverman, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Ridgecroft kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Ridgecroft's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Halifax Academy, their record is now 5-8-1.
Halifax Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Ridgecroft in their previous matchup back in March, winning 5-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
