Football Recap: Central Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Central can now relate to. They had to suffer through a 56-13 loss at the hands of the Staley Falcons. The Indians haven't had much luck with the Falcons recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Drake Gilkison and Kayden Fenwick certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Gilkison picked up 94 receiving yards and one score, while Fenwick picked up 31 receiving yards and one TD.

Lance Holsted produced another solid effort rushing for 172 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries for Staley. Holsted's longest rush was for an impressive 58 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Nick Ballew was another major influence, as he rushed for 90 yards and ran in a TD.

Central's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Staley, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-6.

Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Staley, they will challenge Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on the 7th. The Falcons' defense better be ready for this one: the Blue Jays have averaged an impressive 40.9 points per game this season.
