Baseball Recap: Illini West Continues Road Dominance on Friday

Illini West put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bushnell-Prairie City Spartans a 14-0 shutout. That's more bragging rights for the Chargers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Jaydyn Combites looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

On the hitting side, Ethan Carlisle was a standout: he scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-2. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Carter Chapin was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Illini West was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Illini West's win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. As for Bushnell-Prairie City, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Illini West will square off against Sherrard at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bushnell-Prairie City, they will take on Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge] at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
