Baseball Recap: Zeigler-Royalton Comes Up Short

Zeigler-Royalton extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 20-7 in the process. They fell 11-6 to the Massac County Patriots. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Tornadoes, who until this contest were averaging 3.44 runs allowed.

Chase Cole made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Connor DeWeerdt, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

As for Massac County, they moved to 14-5 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

On Massac County's side, Max Elliott was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and one stolen base. Those two triples gave Elliott a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Musselman, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.

Coincidentally, Zeigler-Royalton and Massac County will both be playing Marshall County the next time they take the field. The Tornadoes will head out to face the Marshals at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, while the Patriots will play them later in the day, at 3:00 p.m.
