Baseball Game Preview: Waterford Wildcats vs. Eastern Eagles

Waterford is 1-8 against Eastern since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Eastern will be up against a hot Waterford squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. The Wildcats never let Belpre get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Eastern's hitters rose to the challenge against a Redskins pitching crew that boasted an average of only 3.63 runs allowed on Wednesday. The Eagles were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over Caldwell.

Trey Mugrage made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Mugrage was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

In other pitching news, Braxton Yonker looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Trace Barnett was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ethan Edwards, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Waterford's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Eastern, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.
