Baseball Game Preview: Homestead Mustangs vs. Piedmont Hills Pirates

The Homestead Mustangs will take on the Piedmont Hills Pirates at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Homestead will be strutting in after a win while Piedmont Hills will be coming in after a defeat.

Homestead took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Westmont with a sharp 10-3 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Homestead let Clay Bussey and Andrew Sun run wild. Bussey scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Sun scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That's the most runs Bussey has posted since back in March of 2024.

Homestead always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westmont only posted an OBP of .400.

Meanwhile, Piedmont Hills suffered their closest loss since April 24, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of Pioneer by a score of 8-6.

Toby Torres made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Homestead now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Piedmont Hills, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Homestead's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. Homestead has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Piedmont Hills, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Homestead continue to outrun the ball?
