Basketball Game Preview: Basalt Longhorns vs. Steamboat Springs Sailors

The Basalt Longhorns are taking a road trip to take on the Steamboat Springs Sailors at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both have had a bumpy ride up to this point with nine consecutive losses for Basalt and three for Steamboat Springs.

Last Saturday, Basalt lost to Moffat County on the road by a 41-22 margin.

Meanwhile, Steamboat Springs came up short against Coal Ridge on Saturday and fell 38-29.

Basalt will need focus on slowing down Hailey Bender, one of several Steamboat Springs players who made an impact when they last played. She posted nine points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Butas, who scored six points and five boards.

Basalt's defeat dropped their record down to 2-14. As for Steamboat Springs, their loss dropped their record down to 4-13.

Basalt might still be hurting after the 40-14 defeat they got from Steamboat Springs in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Basalt avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
