Baseball Recap: Head-Royce Picks Up 11th Straight Win at Home

Head-Royce got themselves on the board against College Prep on Friday, but College Prep never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 6-0 margin over the Cougars. The Jayhawks haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Mateo Gonzalez made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

Gonzalez wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Davis Lynch, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. Lynch has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Head-Royce pushed their record up to 9-4 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for College Prep, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.

Coincidentally, Head-Royce and College Prep will both be playing St. Joseph Notre Dame the next time they take the field. The Jayhawks will host the Pilots at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, while the Cougars will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
