Baseball Recap: Mitchell Wins Going Away Against Avery County

Mitchell lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Avery County, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's matchup. The Mountaineers blew past the Vikings 12-4 on Monday. For the Mountaineers, this counts as revenge for the 13-11 victory the Vikings walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Riley Silver was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Silver was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Kaj Pitman was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Mitchell is 6-2 when Pitman posts two or more runs, but 5-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Buchanan, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Mitchell now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Avery County, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-13.

Mitchell will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Vikings: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
