Basketball Recap: John Gilbert's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Marshall Christian Academy over Bullard

On Friday, the Marshall Christian Academy Guardians lost to the Bullard Panthers on the road by a 72-54 margin. While losing is never fun, the Guardians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1118th, while the Panthers are ranked 403rd).

Marshall Christian Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was John Gilbert, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 boards. Gilbert is becoming a predictor of Marshall Christian Academy's success: when he posts at least ten boards the team is 4-1 (and 2-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Vontay Robinson, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten boards.

Marshall Christian Academy dropped their record down to 6-9 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Bullard, their win bumped their record up to 14-6.

When Marshall Christian Academy and Bullard next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Marshall Christian Academy will try to stop Tyler HEAT's four-game winning streak when the meet at 3:00 p.m. on January 11th. Similarly, Bullard will try to stop Jefferson's five-game winning streak when the meet at 6:45 p.m. on Monday.
