Softball Game Preview: Wildwood Wildcats vs. Meadowbrook Academy Mustangs

The Wildwood Wildcats will challenge the Meadowbrook Academy Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Having struggled with six defeats in a row, Wildwood turned things around against Bishop McLaughlin Catholic on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Hurricanes with a sharp 24-12 victory. The Wildcats' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Alex Barron and Ta'Nyjah Patterson did most of the damage at the plate: Barron fired off two home runs, four runs, and three RBI while going 4-for-5, while Patterson went 4-for-5 with four runs, two triples, and four RBI. Those two home runs gave Barron a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Damaris Douglas, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Wildwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .698. Their OBP was a full 0 higher than the also-impressive .559 that Bishop McLaughlin Catholic posted.

Meadowbrook Academy never got on the board in their matchup two weeks ago, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against First Academy on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 24-17 margin over the Eagles. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by seven runs or more this season.

Wildwood's win bumped their record up to 2-8. As for Meadowbrook Academy, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-4.

Wildwood came out on top in a nail-biter against Meadowbrook Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, sneaking past 8-7. Will Wildwood repeat their success, or does Meadowbrook Academy has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
