Basketball Recap: Cathedral Catholic Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

After flying high against University City on Friday, Cathedral Catholic came back down to earth. The Cathedral Catholic Dons took a 65-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Victory Christian Academy Knights on Saturday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Dons came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while the Knights are ranked 213th).

When it comes to explaining why Cathedral Catholic lost, don't look at Patrick O'Brien. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. O'Brien's afternoon made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Vosburgh, who posted 12 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Victory Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Angel Ochoa, who went 7 for 10 on his way to 21 points. Isaiah Owens was another key player, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards.

Cathedral Catholic's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-8. As for Victory Christian Academy, they moved to 11-12 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cathedral Catholic will take on Mission Bay at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Mission Bay will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Cathedral Catholic surely won't give up without a fight. As for Victory Christian Academy, they will host Eastlake at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Victory Christian Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.3 points per game this season.
