Softball Game Preview: Montwood Rams vs. Pebble Hills Spartans

The Montwood Rams will challenge the Pebble Hills Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Montwood will be looking to extend their current 11-game winning streak.

The home team had won the previous six meetings between Montwood and Eastlake, and Montwood kept the tradition alive. Montwood never let Eastlake get on the board and left with a 6-0 win on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won 13 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

The result came thanks to Pia Velez's shutout, as she gave up just two hits. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had over her last nine matches.

On the hitting side, Nevaeh Heredia was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Grace Ponzio, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Montwood hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in six consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Pebble Hills didn't have quite enough to beat El Dorado on Friday and fell 10-9.

Montwood pushed their record up to 18-5 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. As for Pebble Hills, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-14.

Everything went Montwood's way against Pebble Hills when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Montwood made off with a 9-1 win. Will Montwood repeat their success, or does Pebble Hills have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
