Volleyball Recap: Kolbe-Cathedral Cougars vs. Newtown Nighthawks
Kolbe-Cathedral was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 3-1 to the Newtown Nighthawks. The Cougars were not able to make up for their loss to the Nighthawks from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.
Kolbe-Cathedral was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Newtown work for it, especially in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 26-24, 25-18, 15-25, 25-13.

Despite the loss, Kolbe-Cathedral still got an impressive performance from Angel Gomez, who had 26 digs and one assist. Gomez is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had ten or more in each of the last 23 games he's played dating back to last season.
Leading Newtown to victory were Eli Sullivan and Kade Deraney. Sullivan had 24 digs and one assist, while Deraney had 13 digs and one block. Those 13 digs gave Deraney a new career-high.
Kolbe-Cathedral's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Newtown, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-1.
