Basketball Recap: Salem Continues Home Dominance on Saturday

Salem had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They blew past the Christiansburg Blue Demons 67-25. The Spartans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 games by 23 points or more this season.

Bailey Rider continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 5 for 9 en route to 14 points in addition to five boards and three steals. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabby Crawley, who posted ten points and three steals.

Salem smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Salem pushed their record up to 15-1 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.1 points per game. As for Christiansburg, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Salem will welcome Blacksburg at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Salem's defense has only allowed 27.6 points per game this season, so Blacksburg's offense will have their work cut out for them. Christiansburg has already played their next game (against Northside), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
