Basketball Recap: De Kalb Comes Up Short

De Kalb was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 59-53 heartbreaker at the hands of the Redwater Dragons. Sadly, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 59-39 back in December of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Redwater to victory, but perhaps none more so than Braelan Morgan, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 18 boards. The dominant performance gave Morgan a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Marquez Jones, who went 9 of 19 on his way to 18 points and four steals.

De Kalb's loss dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Redwater, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-17.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Queen City the next time they take the court. Redwater will host Queen City at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while De Kalb will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st.
