Softball Recap: Clear Lake Gets the Win

While Clear Lake's win against Middletown wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cardinals won by a run and slipped past the Mustangs 7-6. The Cardinals haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Atiana Patino was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Faith Mcintire, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Karsyn Greer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Clear Lake now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Middletown, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.

Clear Lake will be playing in front of their home fans against Upper Lake at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed ten runs per game on average), something the Cardinals will no doubt try to take advantage of. Middletown does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
