Etowah gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They came out on top against the Woodstock Wolverines by a score of 38-31. For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 24-7 win the Wolverines walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2024.
Zeke Douglass had a dynamite game, throwing for 209 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also rushing for 76 yards and one TD on only eight carries. Etowah's leading receiver Walker Hughes was Douglass' top target yet again, picking up 76 receiving yards, while also punching in one score on the ground.
Etowah didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Reggie Bruell and Drake Mason. Mason got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
When it comes to explaining why Woodstock lost, don't look at Graham Burmeister. Despite the final result, he rushed for 130 yards and one touchdown while picking up 8.1 yards per carry, and also threw for 211 yards and one TD. Burmeister was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards.
Etowah didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 42-24 defeat against Sprayberry on the 22nd. As for Woodstock, they have also already played their next game, a 33-7 victory against Woodland on the 22nd.
